What is custom HTML/CSS?

HTML is an acronym for Hyper Text Markup Language and CSS is an acronym for Cascading Style Sheets. Custom HTML/CSS are the building blocks that is used to “build” or code 90% of the web applications.

HTML is the <tags> we as web developers use to display certain content in your web browser. Without it websites simply won’t exist. We use tags such as the <body> tag, <h1>, tag or <ul> tag to display content in a certain pre-formatted context, but that is only to get content onto a website. The real magic happens with CSS.

CSS or Cascading Style Sheets is what we use to define the manner according to which these HTML tags get displayed based on a simple structure of selector, property and value. The selector is defined by the relative HTML tag, the property defines what we want to format, like the background, borders or even spacing. The value is what determines how the selector will be formatted, ex body {background-color: blue}.

Why custom coded templates and not pre-coded themes?

First off, let me start by saying that I have nothing against themes, some of them are extremely well built, but to a certain extent. If you are not buying a premium Theme with all the bells and whistles chances are you are not going to get anywhere near your required end result. Some might say that is fine, I’ll just use plugins to accomplish what I set out to, well again the same status quo remains and in the end you would’ve been better off just buying a premium theme from the outset. Bloating your website with plugins is a terrible idea. It slows down performance and if you don’t keep close tabs on it, a out-of-date plugin can be a very real security risk.

So here we get the solution, custom developed websites drastically minimise the need for plugins down to only the bare minimum – as it should be. Themes are developed to serve a very broad spectrum of needs as they are built to be re-sold. Custom coded themes however are built according to client specific needs, no redundant code, no unused widgets all clean and tidy, keeping your site lightweight and super fast.
